Year 1- Summer 2- Week 1
A great first week back! Our new topic is Geography "Where do the wheels on the bus go?" We have looked at where we live in the Atlas and recapped the countries in the United Kingdom. In RE we have looked at ways we can help and support our Global neighbours in other countries. In science, we have learned about the parts of a plant and planted our own beans with a partner. Year 1- Summer 1- week 5
Year 1 have had a lovely final week of Summer term 1. On Tuesday, we celebrated Sir David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday with a minibeast hunt, a fact finding lesson and a special whole school assembly. We have retold the Pentecost story in RE, made a watercolour skyline of the Great Fire of London and shared some lovely news and history homework. We have been practising phonics everyday too. We are all ready for a lovely week at home in the sunshine!

Year 1- Summer 1- Week 4
This week some children in year 1 had a hot chocolate with Mrs Jackson for having 30 stars. We went on a chimpanzee hunt in science too and have had another lovely practise for sports day in our PE lesson.

Year 1 have had a sports day practise in PE this week, we did lots of sprinting, throwing and jumping! We have written diary entries in writing this week and we also did a treasure hunt to find some tricky words.

This week, Year 1 retold the story of the Road to Emmaus from Luke's Gospel. We also said the Rosary with Year 4 as part of the month of Mary. We have been busy in our areas recapping our phonics and we have begun counting in 2s in Maths.

Year 1- Summer 1- Week 1
What a wonderful week we have had celebrating our 60th Anniversary! We started the week with a special mass in school with our friends and families followed by a look round our 'school museum'. We completed lots of fun activities in our class and finished the day on Tuesday with a wonderful showcase of songs from each decade the school has been open. Year 1- Spring 2- Week 6
We shared some lovely homework together in our final week. We have also visited the stations of the cross with year 6 leading us and talked about Jesus's final days leading up to Easter Sunday. Everyone has worked so hard this term and deserves a well earned rest.

This week we looked at the Scripture in Luke's Gospel of the Last Supper. We have been working hard on our phase 5 sounds in phonics and we have looked at features of different animals in science.

This week we have compared objects using non unit measurements in maths. We have also grouped different animals in science, looking at features and characteristics of each group. We did our very best writing in English, writing about how we would look after our pet dinosaur using 'ing' verbs.

This week it was British Science week. We collected natural materials at home and during daily mile and we created our own dinosaur habitats. We had to consider what the dinosaur would need to survive. We have been busy preparing for our Mothers Day assembly and have used 'but' to join clauses in a sentence.

Year 1, Spring 2- Week 2
On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day 2026. Our theme was 'Perfectly Norman' written by Tom Percival. This was such a lovely book with the underlining theme of the importance of being ourselves and being proud of who we are. Year 1 loved reading and chatting about the book and the children talked about their reasons for their chosen costume. Rosie's mum kindly brought in some real fossils from the Jurassic Coast of North Yorkshire which we all loved looking at.

Year 1- Spring 2- Week 1
A great first week back! Year 1 have loved learning about another famous woman in history, Mary Anning, the fossil finder. We enjoyed making a visual timetable and have developed our knowledge of the timescale of when Dinosaurs lived on Earth. We have done some lovely handwriting and have enjoyed exploring our new provision areas. Today we had a mass to mark the beginning of Lent and received our ashes.

Year 1- Spring 1- Week 6
A wonderful final week for Year 1 before our half term holiday. Today we explored the large apparatus in Gymnastics and performed some excellent rolling, jumping and balancing movements in our groups. We really enjoyed it. We also finished our final Frida Kahlo style portraits and shared some lovely homework. We have all worked super hard this term and deserve a lovely rest at home with our families. Well done year 1. Another busy week for year 1! We have loved exploring the life and work of another Famous lady in our history, Frida Kahlo. We are looking forward to developing our painting skills next week when we will be painting a self portrait. We have looked at rolling in gymnastics and done some lovely sequence story writing in English. Maths has been lots of subtracting and finding the difference

On Monday we did a taste taste investigation as part of our science learning. We used our sense of taste to describe different food items. We also used our different senses to create some lovely sentences in our writing using adjectives. In Maths, we have been practising doubling numbers, trying to spot patterns as part of our addition and subtraction learning.

Year 1- Spring 1- Week 3
Year 1 have had a lovely week! We have been using our known facts and our knowledge of number bonds to help us to add on and complete number sentences. We have explored Balance in our PE lesson and made some lovely sequences using travelling movements to link our balances together. We also enjoyed a story from a mystery reader and asked lots of questions at the end. We are looking forward to our next visit from a mystery reader in the coming week!

Year1- Spring 1- Week 2
This week we have used the new school laptops in computing. Year 6 helped us to type in our usernames and we learned all about the different parts of the computer and how to use them safely too. We have done some excellent fairy tale writing in English and looked at teen numbers up to 20. We have shown some lovely sharing and teamwork in our areas and explored different body parts in science.
