St Marie's Catholic Primary School

The year 6 children led a Celebration of the Word to welcome the reception children into Saint Marie's school family. They all made a promise to help guide the reception children on their faith journey.

The reception children love spending time with their buddies.

We have had a busy week thinking about God's Wonderful World. The children have thought about what makes them a good Steward and have donate food for 'The Brick'. We have been thinking about what makes us happy.

As part of our separating mixtures topic in science, we made our own filters to separate out a mixture of water and soil.

This week, we have started to write as Evacuees. We have studied 'The Fall' in our 'To Know You More Clearly' lessons and we have thought about how this links to baptism. We have continued to read our class reader 'Letters to the Lighthouse' and read in comfy corners of the school. Our week has concluded with our WW2 Day - we loved our visit from Rob the Air Raid Warden.

What a wonderful week of learning. To go in line with our topic, the children have created their own self portrait, discussing what makes them so special and unique. We have talked about our families and the importance of being a kind friend.

This week we have enjoyed P.E. with Mr Edwards. We have thought about being stewards of God's world and what would happen if we didn't care for our environment. We wrote prayers to show we understand stewardship.

We have found out about objects from the past with Wigan Museum. We made art from nature.

This week, it was our turn to present Picture News to the rest of KS2. We discussed the question: 'Do wild animals have as much right to the land as we do?

This week we did our writing assessment on instructions on 'How to wash a woolly mammoth' Great work everyone!

We have had another busy week! We are looking at writing evacuee letters in English, Place Value to One Million in Maths, Healthy Hearts in Sciences as well as presenting assemblies about CST and welcoming out buddies with a special Celebration of the Word for Reception. You are making us proud.

What a fantastic start we have had! The Year 6 children are rising to the challenge of being top of the school. They have been a lovely example for their buddies and supported them being new to school. They did a wonderful job in the hustings, representing their teams and giving their speeches! We have started our WW2 topic with great enthusiasm! Thank You Y6!

The reception children have been learning how to make the sign of the cross. We have listening to the 'Creation' story and know how God created the Earth and why we have to look after 'God's Wonderful World'.

The children have been designing and making toys in the Construction Area. In Science, they have identified objects and the materials thy were made from: A plastic pig A wood car A metal spoon A plastic nine frame. We went on a meditative walk in the garden to look at the things that God has made.

This week we have been sorting first class and third class features of The Titanic. We have been partitioning tens and ones in Maths and we went on a walk around the school grounds to look at God's gifts.
