St Marie's Catholic Primary School

Pre-school have thoroughly enjoyed creating artwork inspired by Jackson Pollock. They spent a long time carefully flicking and splattering the paint with their brushes. They have dressed up as firefighters and rescued their friends from dangerous situations (being stuck on a rock) and have enjoyed exploring items that float and sink in the water tray.

In Science, we worked scientifically to test the properties of liquids.

Year 1 have had a lovely week! We have been using our known facts and our knowledge of number bonds to help us to add on and complete number sentences. We have explored Balance in our PE lesson and made some lovely sequences using travelling movements to link our balances together. We also enjoyed a story from a mystery reader and asked lots of questions at the end. We are looking forward to our next visit from a mystery reader in the coming week!

In our P.E. topic of gymnastics, Y5 have been working on creating their own sequences of balances and rolls. Well done, Y5.

We had a great lesson on the computers and new laptops and also used the i-pads for research about Bangladesh. We have been learning about symmetry in shapes in Maths and microhabitats in science, where we sorted and grouped animals using a classification key. We also welcomed our first Mystery Reader which was very exciting!

We have had a busy week improving our arithmetic, role playing grammar with preposition charades, retelling Jesus' miracles and learning about inherited characteristics in science. We really enjoyed team bonding in PE.

In PSHE, we discussed and made posters about the features of a good community.

It has been a super busy week in pre-school! We have created astronaut helmets and flown around Earth, we have enjoyed making space collage plates and went to the 'dough disco'! It was so much fun.

Are Dragons real or are they a Fantasy?

This week we have produced some excellent writing about Little Red Riding Hood. We have been logging onto the computers and familiarised ourselves with the keyboard and we have been dancing to Bangladesh traditional music.

We have investigated ratio this week, researched Charles Darwin, found the features of non-chronological reports and retold the Wedding at Cana.

We had a fabulous start to the term. We worked hard on converting measure, researching The Lake District and reading mysterious short stories.

As part of our computing work, we have been using laptops and desktops to practice our Microsoft Office skills. This week we practiced saving and uploading documents to our Microsoft Teams class page.

This week we have used the new school laptops in computing. Year 6 helped us to type in our usernames and we learned all about the different parts of the computer and how to use them safely too. We have done some excellent fairy tale writing in English and looked at teen numbers up to 20. We have shown some lovely sharing and teamwork in our areas and explored different body parts in science.

In PE, we used our listening skills, communication skills, teamwork skills  and balance skills to order ourselves in height, age and alphabetical order.

Year 1 have settled in so well to 2026! We have had a lovely week of learning. We have really enjoyed our new learning about Famous Women in History, we have explored hospitals and nursing in the past and present and created a timeline to order key events in the life of Florence Nightingale. We have also looked at the story of the presentation of Jesus from Luke's Gospel and we acted it out in groups.
