St Marie's Catholic Primary School

A big thank you to all of the volunteers who came into school for our Y5 & 6 careers day. The children heard about careers in physics, law, medicine, business and even from a CSI officer! Well done, Y5 and Y6, for asking such interesting questions.

We used our musical, listening and performing skills to present a percussion medley for our families and some other classes in school. We enjoyed every minute!

We have used our persuasive writing skills to convince people to visit The Anderton Centre. We then used our presentation skills to persuade Year 3 to go there on a residential next year.

Y5 had a wonderful time at St. Peter's Science event. We all had a go at lighting and using Bunsen burners, building towers out of spaghetti and using microscopes. We also had the opportunity to show off our eco-friendly sustainable house.

Y5 have been working hard on their sustainabilty eco-house projects for their upcoming visit to St Peter's.

Y5 practiced their oracy by carrying out an information relay. Each team member retrieved a question, discussed it with their group and took the answer back to the question sheet. Well done Y5!

We created posters about pollution, saving energy and recycling and learnt about David Attenborough's dedication to conservation. We presented our findings in a whol e school celebration of David Attenborough's 100th birthday.

We used Freeze Frames to represent the Apostles Creed.

As part of our science topic on space, we learned about time and how we have measured time through the ages. We then made and calibrated our own sundials.

As part of our To Know You More Clearly work, we have been learning about the five Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. We created 'freeze frames' for each of the mysteries.

As part of our St. Marie's 60th Anniversary Celebrations, we dressed up in 1990s outfits; performed a dance to a 1990s song and enjoyed a whole school picnic.

We performed the Easter Story through words, song and dance. Happy Easter from Mrs Hawkins, Mrs Carrington, Mrs Polgar and Mrs Aspinall x

Y5 practiced their maths learning in an active maths session. We revised our decimals, percentages and fractions as well as our square and cube numbers. Well done, Y5

World Book Day in Year 4 based on Perfectly Norman who grew wings.

Thank you, Y5 for such an enjoyable World Book Day 2026! You looked great in your costumes or dressed in something that made you unique! In class, we focused on the book Perfectly Norman , by Tom Percival. We created story maps, to practice our sequencing events skills and made emoji maps that tracked the emotions and feelings of characters throughout the book.

As we celebrate national science week next week, Y5 have been busy preparing their projects ready to take to a showcasing event at Standish Community High School. The theme of science week this year is 'curiosity'. We have been set a space themed task where we have to protect the 'astronauts' in our landing craft by creating a shock-absorbing system for our lander. Well done, Y5, you were extremely resourceful!

Thank you to all the Year 4 Parents and grandparents who have supported us in class as Mystery Readers. We have loved welcoming you into our classroom and it has showed us all the importance of reading for pleasure.

Y5 had a wonderful time at the Liverpool World Museum. We visited the permanent ancient Egypt exhibition where we saw: mummies, 'shabti' statues and other amazing artefacts from ancient Egypt. In our mummification workshop, we all took part in 'mummifying' a body and learned about the reasons behind many of the rituals of mummification. We also had chance to visit the aquarium and space exploration floors!
