St Marie’s Catholic Primary School Curriculum Guide R.S.H.E

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” John 10:10

A Journey in Love

The Governors at St Marie's Catholic Primary School have adopted the 'Journey in Love' programme to support the non-statutory relationships and sex education throughout the school.  The programme of study is authentic to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Our intent through our delivery of RSHE is to ensure that our children understand that they are made in the image and likeness of God, through this understanding they will be at ease with themselves and deepen their self-knowledge of how to grow and flourish healthily and holistically towards developing successful relationships. Our RSHE curriculum promotes strong links and connections with Catholic teaching and gospel values, and we have sought to ensure that this is accessible to all. We want our children to become happy, healthy and responsible members of society who understand the necessary components to develop healthy and successful relationships within their own lives. They are actively encouraged to develop a positive sense of self-esteem and to have a healthy respect and love for their own bodies and minds.

RSE is statutory across EYFS and KS1. In KS2 you have the right to withdraw your child from some aspects of the RSE Y6 curriculum however, this is not to be confused with the Science curriculum which is statutory.

Parent support is invaluable and we work together as a team putting the children at the heart of all we do. If you require any further clarification regarding this aspect of the curriculum please attend our RSE resource sessions in November (see ParentPay and Newsletter for dates) or contact:

Mrs Styles (RE Leads) or Mrs Jackson (Headteacher).
