As we started our new 'Prophesy and Promise' branch, we read extracts from the book of Samuel which described the boy shepherd David being anointed king by Samuel. We were inspired to act out the story in class.

As part of mapping week, we took a walk around Standish where we observed and recorded features to include on our own sketch maps.

We have been investigating how solutions can be separated through the process of evaporation.

Year 5 Curriculum Map

Y5 spent a fascinating, hands-on day learning about Viking life with Wayland the Viking; we explored artefacts, practiced battle techniques and made Viking oil-lamps.

As part of our separating mixtures topic in science, we made our own filters to separate out a mixture of water and soil.

As part of our PSHE work, Y5 worked in groups to complete thinking frames on how people may feel before and after being included within a community.

In science, we thought about substances and their properties. We made our own mixtures and took a closer look at the particles. We recorded our observations scientifically.
